TJ MILLER
LMFT
People and the way people react & behave within situations have always been a source of fascination for me. I have always been both naturally empathetic & inquisitive. The combination of these two qualities have created a strong desire for increased emotional regulation & overall increased understanding of the human mind (neuroscience). I seek to use my skills and knowledge to help those not only suffering but also seeking to help themselves. It has been a privilege to devote my professional life enlightening people in this way.
I cannot call Kansas my birthplace, but it is where I have called home for over 25 years. I am a transplant to the state of Kansas and originally from North Dakota (born and raised). Prior to receiving my Master of Science degree and (LMFT) marriage and family therapy license, I am proud to say that I have over 25 years combined experience in the health care field. Most of that time was spent working in pharmacy (15+ years). I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration and once upon time was an office manager for a small (yet busy) medical practice in Lawrence, KS. Prior to receiving my master’s degree from Friends University, I worked as an adult case manager at South Central Mental Health in El Dorado, KS. Once in graduate school, I had the honor of interning at the Table of Hope church where I began my work with the LGBTQIA+ community in the Wichita metro area.
My educational & professional backgrounds have afforded me the experience of working with a wide array of clientele and have allowed me to recognize the importance of flexibility and adaptability as a therapist. I work primarily from a collaborative, strengths-based/person-centered/brain-based approach (all with the goal of assisting and supporting clients of being the author of their own life story). I have extensive experience working with adults struggling with addiction & substance abuse through CBT (cognitive behavioral) and DBT (dialectical behavioral) skills.
I am currently working towards my clinical licensure as a marriage & family therapist, as well as addiction counseling.
