In case you have not heard the buzz going around about NeuroStar TMS Treatments, TMS stands for Transcranial magnetic stimulation, which uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what’s used in an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. It is a non-invasive treatment that is done while the patient is awake and alert. NeuroStar TMS Therapy stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in depression.

Don’t believe us? Here are some quotes from previous patients of ours that have given us permission to anonymously share their experience with NeurStar TMS Therapy at our office.

” Before TMS Treatments all I would think about was when can I go to bed. After receiving the NeuroStar TMS Therapy treatments I caught myself smiling while driving to my treatment sessions. I felt a lift off my body. The darkness wasn’t so overwhelming and I feel lighter.”

“Prior to the treatments I was lacking motivation to even get out of bed, everything was a struggle. After receiving the NeuroStar TMS Therapy treatments I feel a lot more hopeful. I’m nowhere near where I was emotionally when starting the treatments.”

“Before TMS Treatments I felt very depressed and anxious. I feel as though the treatments have improved my mood, sex drive, and energy level. I feel depressed / anxious far less frequently.”

“Before receiving treatment I felt very hopeless, down, and depressed. I was in bed A LOT. The treatments have given me hope and has helped my depression tremendously. I honestly feel like NeuroStar TMS Therapy Treatments have given me my life back.”

Whether you find yourself nearing finals (as a student or a teacher), or perhaps you simply have a loved one in your life that is dealing with the unique challenges that come with education, most people are, in some way, shape, or form, confronted with the the fact that college can indeed be a stressful (albeit exciting and rewarding) time. However, studies show that although we are often aware of the difficulties associated with pursuing higher education, many people do not understand the depth to which mental health and function can be affected for so many students during this season of life. In fact, the Journal of Mental Health & Clinical Psychology found that “..in studies on mental health and stigma amongst college students, only about one-third of students with psychological disorders receive mental health treatment.” ¹ One-third! One might think that something so common in our society would be an ongoing, normalized, and open conversation, but unfortunately, stigmas surrounding mental health are still very real. By educating ourselves on mental illnesses, we can correct errors in our worldview surrounding mental health, both towards ourselves and towards others. As we align our points of view with the facts, we are much more prepared to fight the stigmas that keep students (and others!) feeling isolated in their fight with mental health.

Let’s be honest. If you’ve been diagnosed with depression, finding a safe and effective treatment that works for you can be daunting, and, in some cases, even downright discouraging. Have you tried and failed to find an antidepressant that’s the perfect fit for managing your symptoms? If so, it might be time to look at the possibility of TMS treatments.
